NGLN-ATL History

The locally focused activities of NGLN-ATL were initiated by a workshop for twenty-seven Westside youth, coordinated by Jacqueline Jones Royster and led by two faculty of the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts at the Georgia Institute of Technology (Dr. Joycelyn Wilson and Mr. John Thornton). It was hosted by Raising Expectations, Inc., a youth development program.

The title of the workshop was Literacy, Action, and Leadership.  It was sponsored by: Middlebury College Bread Loaf School of English, The Ford Foundation, FROM the Roots Consulting, LLC, Communities Who Know, Inc.™, and Writing for Change. NGLN-ATL engaged student participants from Booker T. Washington High School and took our first representatives to the NGLN Summit in Middlebury, Vermont, in July 2017.
