University for Parents is offering Orientation and will have open Registration THIS WEEK: 
 
TOMORROW, Jan 8th and Wednesday, Jan 9th
from 10 AM to Noon and 6PM to 8 PM
@ at Providence Missionary Baptist Church

There will be free morning, afternoon & evening classes that will range from basic computer skills to advanced computer skills, the reading circle, parenting classes, financial literacy, yoga & meditation, an dmore.  Free child care will be available along with free evening meals and free MARTA cards. Questions about registration and course offerings should be directed to CARES@universityforparents.com or you may call (770) 316-3487. 
 
The King Holiday Observance week Kick-Off Reception is the opening event for a week of honoring the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The reception takes place on Tuesday, Jan 15th from 6pm – 8pm in Freedom Hall at the King Center @ 449 Auburn Ave NE, Atlanta, GA 30312.  The reception will conclude with a presentation of the Dream Forward Community Service Awards in the following categories:
  • Faith-Based Leadership
  • Environmental Responsibility
  • Elected Officials
  • Media
  • International Affairs and
  • Social Justice.

The Friends of English Avenue is hosting a clothing drive this month. Please contact Gabrielle Howes for information about what clothes are needed, and for drop off information: foea@gdp.com.
 
The Historic Westin Heights / Bankhead Neighborhood Association. Inc. is working with the League of Women Voters- Atalanta Fulton Unit to host an Atlanta City Council District 3 Voter Information and Candidate Forum. More information will be posted on the Association’s Facebook page, and on the League of Women Voters Atlanta Fulton website.
 
Historic Westside Gardens Atlanta will host a “Gardening and Cooking Matters” class on January 29th and 30th. HWG believes that access to fresh, healthful and affordable food is a right which many families residing in Atlanta’s Westside are lacking. Historic Westside Gardens (HWG) is dedicated to empowering individuals in the Westside neighborhoods to grow their own food and strengthen their community. The gardening and cooking matters class at the end of this month is part of the HWG’s mission to create a rooted, powerful, and resilient Westside one gardener at a time. 
 
Alvin Ailey will be performing at the Fox Theater February 21st through February 24th. This year’s Atlanta performance is part of the Destination Dance Ailey Atlanta program, whose mission is to engage Atlanta’s vibrant cultural community through partnerships between Ailey’s Dance Theater and Atlanta-based cultural, civic, and educational organizations like the Fox.
